Concerned about the pandemic, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have started its own swine flu testing centre. The Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) will be carrying out the H1N1 virus testing in these far-flung Islands and accordingly a full-fledged H1N1 Influenza laboratory has been established at the RMRC, Port Blair. Till now, all the suspected H1N1 cases were sent to a Pune-based laboratory by Andaman's health department, because of which it used to take two to three days for getting the test results.

Infamous for increasing traffic snarls instead of reducing it, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system of Delhi is undergoing a kind of facelift these days. The Delhi Integrated Multimodal Transit System (DIMTS) is setting up an Intelligent Traffic Management system which will be smart enough to gauge the traffic situation and accordingly will direct the signals to function. This is in turn will reduce the waiting time which often is long as ten minutes.

Leaving no scope of communication gap between the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the stakeholders in implementing the Connaught Place re-development project, a meeting was recently organised to sort out problems being faced by the traders and the NDMC. Since the façade restoration work in underway in 16 blocks of Connaught Place and construction of eight new subways in the Outer Circle is on the cards, the New Delhi Trader's Association (NDTA) discussed about the issues relating to quality of work and effect of shrinking spaces due to construction on their businesses.

After 7-star hotels, it's the time now for 7- star toilets! The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is charged up for the Commonwealth Games 2010 and is, thus, planning 7-star toilets for visitors. The Corporation has proposed to build 300 such toilets which will be so clean that one will get lured to sit on the sofas inside and enjoy coffee. According to MCD officials, the blocks will also consist of coffee shops, flower shops and fast food joints.

Addressing a press conference in Goa, Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik urged the state government to appoint a committee to examine the provisions of the Goa Education Act 1985, Goa Education Rules 1986, Goa Education Board Act, 1975 and Goa Education Board Rules 1975. He also said to make necessary changes in them to make education reforms a reality.
